The Orthodox Spirituality Reading Group in Union County will explore the Story of the Prophet Abraham (Genesis 1-22) through the riches of ancient Orthodox Christian tradition on Sunday Jan. 15 from 3 to 4 p.m. in the Rusty Rail, Loading Dock Dining Area, 8th St. in Mifflinburg PA. The monthly group’s “Journey through the Bible” series of conversations is informal and open to all, whether Orthodox Christians or not, and no previous knowledge or reading is required. Reading materials will be supplied. The study relies on commentaries from The Orthodox Study Bible and from Priest-Martyr Daniel Sysoev’s The Law of God book, to be rooted in the millennia-old teachings of the Orthodox Christian Church. Discussion will also include a focus on St. Andrei Rublev’s famous visual iconography of the “Hospitality of Abraham” symbolizing the Holy Trinity. The reading group is sponsored by Holy Protection Orthodox Christian Mission Church, in Lewisburg PA, the only Russian Orthodox Church in central Pennsylvania. Come and see!
